Leo Kallonen – A Versatile Expert in Technology and Problem Solving 

Leo Kallonen has been working at Samlink since 2017, and his career path has been both diverse and technically challenging. Currently, Leo works as a Solution Architect, and his expertise spans a wide range of technologies and projects. 

Leo began his journey into the world of technology at the University of Helsinki, where he studied computer science. During his bachelor’s studies, he worked at Samlink during the summers, and after graduation, he joined here full-time. 

In the early stages of his career, Leo focused on tasks such as automation testing and application development, and he also gained experience as a Scrum Master. Nowadays, he works as a Solution Architect in a lending system project. 

Technical Innovations and Moments of Success 

In his daily work, Leo designs and develops Samlink’s solutions, examines old code, and plans new applications. Although his role is architectural, his workdays can be very versatile. 

“My role as a solution architect is broad covering several areas, such as integrations and retrieving data from various systems,” Leo explains. 

Leo enjoys combining his broad technical knowledge with practical problem-solving. His strengths lie especially in his deep understanding of systems and programming languages, such as Java. 

Leo has been involved in several significant projects at Samlink. One of the most memorable was an RPA (Robotic Process Automation) project, which improved the efficiency by automating routine tasks. 

“The RPA project was a new area for me, and it brought moments of success when the automations worked, and processes were accelerated. It was especially rewarding to see how the employees quickly adapted to the new tools and appreciated how much routine work was reduced,” he says. 

Leo is used to solving technical challenges effectively. He has a particular skill in recognizing whom to ask for help and how to approach problems. 

“Knowing where to look for information makes it possible to solve most challenges quickly,” he explains. 

Staying Current and Finding Balance 

Leo considers it important to stay updated on technological developments. He actively participates in training sessions and follows industry trends, such as artificial intelligence and cloud services. 

“At Samlink, there are many projects related to utilizing cloud services. I believe that in the future, AI will become even more integrated into our work, particularly in areas like predictive analytics, process automation, and personalized customer experiences. These technologies help the industry reduce costs, improve decision-making, and adapt more quickly to changing market demands,” Leo reflects. 

Leo encourages young people interested in the field to ask experienced professionals for advice and to open-mindedly experiment with different systems related to the work. 

“You learn best when you dare to try and take risks, but also ask for help when needed,” he says. 

In his free time, Leo enjoys sports. His hobbies include floorball, badminton, and volleyball, but additionally he especially enjoys archery. He has also recently started practicing medieval fencing. 

“It’s a fun and challenging hobby that provides a good balance to mental work,” Leo says.
